Internships
INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES Candidates should have an interest in the legislative process, civic service, possess excellent writing and communication skills, work well in a team environment, and have a general understanding of the United States political system. We offer both part-time and full-time internships but require a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week. Our office hosts both paid and unpaid internships. For paid positions, we offer monthly stipends of up to $2600/month, depending on hours worked and the availability of office funds, for part-time and full-time interns. Preference will be given to current college students and applicants with ties to the Pacific Northwest and Washington’s 9 th Congressional District. However, recent college graduates and candidates of all backgrounds are also strongly encouraged to apply. Interns may earn college credit, depending on the requirements of their respective academic institutions. Kent, Washington District Office (DO): Primary Duties: Interns in the District Office have an opportunity to work in community outreach and constituent services. This includes working with caseworkers to help constituents with issues relating to immigration, military, and other federal agencies. Depending on interests, interns also have an opportunity to participate in community outreach, attend meetings and events with staff and/or the Congressman, and assist with town hall meetings. Other intern duties are administrative - assisting staff with answering phones, data entry, scanning and/or copying documents, writing correspondence, etc. Washington, D.C. Office: Primary Duties: Interns will have a variety of daily responsibilities, including conducting legislative research, fielding constituent phone calls, and writing correspondence. Other duties include leading tours of the U.S. Capitol, assisting with office communications, and providing general administrative support. Interns will have the opportunity to attend briefings and committee hearings of personal interest and complete individual and team goals.
