**Deputy Court Clerk - GOVT/Tribal Court**

The **Deputy Court Clerk** position is responsible for providing exceptional customer service and recordkeeping services to people conducting business with the court. Under the general supervision of the Court Administrator/Magistrate, the Deputy Court Clerk performs data entry for traffic, civil and criminal matters in an accurate and timely manner, verifies the accuracy of information provided, and collects and processes fees, fines, and other payments.

**Job Responsibilities:**

- Provide information and services at the counter.
- Complete and file civil matters that include conservation and traffic.
- Collect fees and other payments; data entry; and maintain accurate records as necessary as determined by the Court Administrator/Magistrate.
- Issue summons or warrants, as required, and arrange for services.
- Open/prepare case files for court; answer and respond to telephone and in-person inquiries in the Clerk's office.
- Calculate balances; input scheduled hearings into the court's docket system.
- Prepare notices and dockets; process bonds and arrests, including receiving returned/served warrants; journalizing/filing the information.
- Process abstracts of conviction for license information to the Secretary of State.
- Prepare and process all paperwork for releases from jail/writs for the Department of Corrections.
- Maintain the court recording system and telephone and video conferencing coordination for all court hearings.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Court Administrator/Magistrate.
- Run errands that include: the post office and accounting.

**Requirements:**

- High School diploma or equivalent. Associate Degree in Paralegal preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a legal office, professional business, or court setting required.
- Will be required to undergo and successfully pass a background check.
- Must maintain a good moral character standing.
- Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the Sault Tribe Insurance Department.
- Must comply with annual driver's license review and insurability standards with the Sault Tribe Insurance Department.
- Will be required to complete and pass pre-employment drug testing.
- Knowledge and ability to use appropriate legal terminology and formats required.
- Knowledge of tribal, state, and federal law is required.
- Must have typing and computer skills and be able to effectively operate a copier/fax machine and general office equipment and the digital court recording system.
- Must have the ability to use Excel, PowerPoint, and Word software programs.
- Must have excellent and pleasant communication skills in person and by telephone.
- Must have a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Must be able to handle stress and effectively respond to hectic work area demands.
- Must be able to deal with interruptions and effectively multitask and meet deadlines.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality.

**Physical Requirements:**

Lifting of 20 pounds with frequent lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds. Constant use of near vision, midrange vision, color vision, the field of vision, and depth perception; frequent standing, walking, sitting, manual handling, use of hearing, driving, and typing; and occasional carrying and unpacking of office supply items no greater than 20 pounds, lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, reaching and use of smell, far vision, driving, and bending. Working conditions include occasional exposure to weather and noise. Potential hazards include constant computer use and occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, electric shock, infectious exposure, patient contact, and/or client contact and equipment.

**Salary Information:**

The Deputy Court Clerk position offers a salary of $17.385 per hour, full time.
