**Overview:**

Founded in 1966, CRLA (California Rural Legal Assistance) is dedicated to providing legal services to low-income communities and fighting for justice and individual rights. With a network of regional offices and cross-cutting programs, CRLA serves tens of thousands of individuals annually, including farmworkers, indigenous populations, individuals with disabilities, immigrants, LGBTQ communities, women, children, and low-income families in rural areas.

**Job Description:**

The Staff Attorney will report to the Directing Attorney and provide comprehensive legal services to eligible clients in accordance with CRLA program guidelines, ABA Standards for Providers of Civil Legal Services, and the Code of Professional Responsibility. The attorney will also undertake significant statewide impact activities, develop specialized knowledge in a specific area of poverty law, and collaborate with other human services providers, non-profit organizations, and community advocacy groups.

**Key Responsibilities:**

- Provide legal services to low-income clients, including advice, negotiation, litigation, and administrative advocacy
- Review and supervise work of Community Workers and Clerical support staff
- Undertake significant statewide impact activities
- Develop specialized knowledge in a specific area of poverty law
- Coordinate advocacy efforts with other organizations and groups
- Participate in CRLA training programs and activities
- Provide community education on legal rights
- Work with members of the private bar as necessary
- Maintain accurate time records
- Maintain positive relationships with office staff
- Other duties as assigned

**Required Education and Experience:**

- Admitted to practice law in the State of California or willing to take the next CA Bar Exam
- Demonstrated commitment to working with low-income clients
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and multitask with attention to detail
- Good people skills and ability to work with a diverse population

**Preferred Education and Experience:**

- Experience working with low-income families and communities
- Experience in a non-profit legal services environment
- Prior experience in legal services and additional language ability
- Bilingual (English & Spanish)

Staff Attorney: $73,000-$104,000, depending on years of admission to practice law and relevant work experience
