Duties:

- Provide in-house legal advice on municipal, tax, regulatory, land use, and employment topics
- Ensure effective and consistent prosecution, defense, and resolution of civil cases
- Represent the Grays Harbor County Prosecuting Attorney in defense and resolution of civil law cases
- Minimize County's risk and liability
- Litigate and negotiate civil cases and contracts
- Manage assigned cases and ensure resolution within office policy guidelines
- Offer advice and counsel to County officials and employees
- Apply legal expertise in various fields of civil law relevant to county government
- Manage legal issues, negotiate agreements, and conduct investigations as needed
- Review decisions, policies, regulations, contracts, claims, and other legal matters
- Conduct legal research and gather necessary documents and evidence
- Represent the County in hearings, arbitrations, and civil courts
- Coordinate review, approval, and negotiation of contracts and agreements
- Draft legal documents and prepare legal filings and analyses
- Coordinate with other County Attorneys on complex cases and legal documents
- Participate on technical and advisory teams for regulatory compliance and risk management
- Coordinate with other attorneys for trials, forfeiture actions, and appellate cases
- Assist in training County staff as needed

Qualifications:

- Juris Doctorate (JD) degree required
- Four years of legal practice experience, including public records law experience
- Must be licensed by the Bar to practice law in the State of Washington and maintain a clear criminal record
- Washington State Driver's License is desirable

Knowledge and Skills:

- Familiarity with County organization, operations, policies, and procedures
- Knowledge of state and federal criminal and civil statutes, rules, and regulations
- Understanding of Prosecuting Attorney's protocols and strategies for negotiation and litigation
- Knowledge of legal precedents and court decisions affecting local government, including labor and employment law
- Familiarity with legal case management procedures and records management requirements
- Understanding of trial court, hearing, and legal proceeding protocols
- Proficiency in legal research methods and tools
- Ability to gather and analyze information, evidence, and data for use in court
- Familiarity with duties, powers, authorities, and limitations of a Prosecuting Attorney
- Skills in reading, interpreting, and applying relevant laws and regulations
- Ability to review and analyze legal issues and documents and recommend solutions
- Proficiency in using initiative and independent judgment within procedural guidelines
- Ability to negotiate and mediate difficult and complex situations
- Experience with prosecuting and defending cases, developing strategies, and presenting legal arguments
- Ability to litigate cases in hearings and courtroom settings and present legal arguments
- Familiarity with electronic legal research and online systems
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with coworkers, attorneys, and other participants in the civil justice process
- Proficiency in using standard office and legal software programs
- Ability to maintain technical records and files

Grays Harbor County is currently seeking a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney to join their team. As a civil division attorney, you will provide in-house legal advice on a wide variety of municipal, tax, regulatory, land use, and employment topics. You will also be responsible for ensuring effective and consistent prosecution, defense, and resolution of civil cases for the protection of the County and the welfare of the Community. This is a full-time position with a salary range of $40.41 - $80.22 Hourly, $7,004.00 - $13,905.00 Monthly, and $84,048.00 - $166,860.00 Annually.

Duties and responsibilities for this position include:

- Representing the Grays Harbor County Prosecuting Attorney in the defense and resolution of civil law cases and issues, while minimizing the County’s risk and liability
- Litigating and negotiating civil cases and contracts, and managing assigned cases to ensure they are resolved within office policy guidelines
- Providing advice and counsel to County officials and employees on legal matters
- Applying legal expertise in a variety of legal fields, including labor & employment, administrative, contract, tort, tax, forfeitures, and other fields of civil law that apply to county government
- Managing assigned legal issues, negotiating agreements with opposing parties, and conducting investigations as needed
- Reviewing relevant decisions, policies, regulations, resolutions, contracts, claims, and other legal matters, and resolving issues within a designated scope of authority
- Conducting legal research and preparing legal documents and analyses as required
- Representing the County at hearings and arbitrations, and bringing cases before civil courts
- Coordinating the review, approval, and negotiation of contracts and agreements, and conducting factual and legal analysis to determine their validity
- Drafting legal documents, including memoranda of law, briefs, agreements, and other legal filings and documents
- Coordinating with other County Attorneys in preparing complex cases and legal documents
- Participating on technical and advisory teams, providing advice and information on regulatory compliance and risk management issues
- Coordinating with other attorneys in preparing complex cases and legal documents, and assisting in the training of County staff as needed.
