The Oregon Public Defense Commission is seeking multiple organized and proactive Legal Secretaries for two vacancies in Portland and Salem. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, and preferably be bilingual in English and Spanish. This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants for current and future vacancies.

The Oregon Public Defense Commission is responsible for ensuring competent and effective legal representation for eligible individuals. The agency is divided into several divisions, including the Administrative Services Division, which is responsible for managing contracts, compliance, and financial services related to public defense cases. Other services provided by the agency include data collection and analysis, legal representation in state appellate courts, and policy development.

The Legal Secretary positions will involve administrative duties such as daily contact with clients and court officials, maintaining calendars, making travel arrangements, and preparing statistical reports. They will also be responsible for drafting and finalizing legal documents, determining jurisdiction and pleading format, and tracking the flow of legal documents. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of clerical/secretarial experience, including one year as a legal assistant, and be proficient in word processing software.
