Hastings, MN State of Minnesota Board of Public Defense - Summer Law Clerk Position Summary The State of Minnesota Board of Public Defense is currently seeking motivated and dedicated law students to join our Summer Law Clerk program. This program offers a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in the criminal justice system while also receiving a competitive salary of $20.00/hour and a housing stipend of up to $1,500 (if eligible). The position is part-time, hourly, and can last up to 12 weeks with a maximum of 40 hours per week. As a Summer Law Clerk, you will have the chance to work under the supervision of the Managing Attorney or Chief Public Defender and perform a variety of duties, including providing direct services to clients, conducting legal research, drafting briefs, and attending court proceedings. The specific duties may vary depending on the Judicial District, offering a diverse and enriching experience for students. To be eligible for this position, applicants must be currently enrolled and actively attending an accredited law school. Students seeking certification as a Student Practitioner must have completed at least two semesters of Law School. This position may also be eligible for externship credit, so students are encouraged to check with their local institution for eligibility requirements.
