Immigration Staff Attorney - Join Our Team at Florida Rural Legal Services Inc

Full-time job opportunity for an experienced immigration attorney specializing in representing victims of domestic violence, human trafficking, and other crimes in Florida. The position is located in Lakeland, Fort Myers, Fort Pierce, Belle Glade, or Riviera Beach.

Job Description:

Florida Rural Legal Services Inc is seeking a dedicated and experienced immigration attorney to join our team. The individual will be responsible for providing legal representation to victims of domestic violence, human trafficking, and other crimes through our established partnerships. The role also includes representing clients in family law/domestic relations cases when necessary.

Responsibilities:

- Represent clients in immigration matters before government agencies such as U.S. immigration courts and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services
- Provide legal representation to FRLS clients in U.S. state courts
- Conduct thorough consultations with clients in all FRLS offices and make appropriate referrals to outside agencies
- Prepare clients for interviews before USCIS, U.S. immigration courts, and U.S. state courts
- Analyze case outcomes and determine appropriate legal strategies
- Manage large caseloads and independently handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Supervise paralegals on assigned cases and monitor case progress and deadlines
- Prepare legal documents, including cover letters, memorandums, briefs, and opinions
- File appeals before administrative and federal courts
- Keep clients informed of case progress through various forms of communication
- Develop and litigate cases, including legal research and case strategy development
- Interview clients and identify legal problems within a specific area of law
- Participate in outreach and case acceptance meetings
- Represent clients in court and before administrative agencies
- Provide documentation and statistical information as required
- Participate in training to maintain CLEs
- Adhere to office hours and exhibit a strong work ethic
- Communicate and treat clients and staff with courtesy and respect
- Serve as a role model for support staff
- Promote accessibility for all clients, including rural clients, non-English speaking clients, and clients with disabilities
- Foster good relations with the public and attend/speak at local meetings as approved
- Provide timely data for grant applications and other program needs
- Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

- JD degree from an accredited law school
- Active Florida Bar license in good standing
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Foreign language proficiency preferred
- Able to perform manual and electronic searches using external systems
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Able to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

Compensation:

- Salary is commensurate with experience
