Legal Administrative Assistant - Litigation
Detroit, MI Job Title: Legal Administrative Assistant - Litigation Salary: Competitive pay and benefits Experience: Experienced in financial services related litigation Department: Litigation Location: Grand Rapids or Kalamazoo, Michigan Duties and Responsibilities: - Assist in preparation of legal documents, correspondence, memoranda, and pleadings - Type, revise, and proofread legal documents accurately and meet specific deadlines - Manage caseload and database of files, including e-filing in Michigan and Illinois State Courts, and Bankruptcy/Federal Courts - Assemble, organize, and prepare documents for filing into filing systems - Coordinate client billing matters and assist with billing process - Schedule and arrange meetings, reserve conference rooms - Open new client/matters and conduct conflict of interest checks - Conduct periodic review of older files and prepare for closure - Make travel arrangements and prepare itineraries - Process mail and messenger services as required - Keep up to date on changing court filing requirements and serve as liaison between attorney and court system - Perform administrative tasks such as preparing expense reports and check requests - Receive clients and visitors and maintain good public relations - Communicate effectively and professionally via email and phone with clients, attorneys, and staff - Perform other duties as assigned Requirements: - Minimum High School Diploma/GED - Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and excellent computer skills - Knowledge of complete litigation processes - Familiarity with bankruptcy litigation and pre- and post-judgment remedies - Ability to draft standard pleadings - Knowledge of electronic court filings in Michigan and Illinois State Courts, Bankruptcy, and Federal Courts - Familiarity with client billing process and electronic billing - Ability to docket and follow-up on court dates - Ability to learn and use proprietary software - Ability to work with PDF and Word documents, including redlining and comparing - Ability to work with Excel documents, including formatting, printing, and converting - Excellent communication skills, both orally and via email - Ability to prioritize tasks and work under time constraints - Ability to work collaboratively in a team and demonstrate teamwork and communication with team members and all Firm personnel - Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively and follow instructions from attorneys and staff - Ability to work autonomously and with discretion - Ability to handle a busy workload with multiple projects Benefits: - Competitive pay and benefits - Paid time off - Excellent family leave options for both moms and dads - Flexible assignments - Career advancement opportunities - Annual performance reviews - Community involvement opportunities - Health, dental, and life insurance options, including health savings accounts - Long- and short-term disability coverage - Flexible spending accounts - 401(k) retirement plan with employer contribution At Law Firm, we value our employees and offer them the opportunity to advance their careers while still maintaining a work-life balance.
