Assistant Attorney General, Trial/General Civil Unit
Richmond, VA Organization: Attorney General & Dept of Law Department: Office of the Attorney General Position: Assistant Attorney General, Trial/General Civil Unit Location: Richmond, Virginia, United States Salary: Commensurate with Experience Job Type: Full-Time (Salaried) Hiring Range: UG Overview: The Attorney General & Dept of Law in Richmond, Virginia is seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual for the position of Assistant Attorney General in the Trial/General Civil Unit. The successful candidate will provide legal counsel and representation to the Virginia Birth-Related Neurological Injury Compensation Program and its Board, as well as the Commonwealth Health Research Board. This is a full-time, salaried position with a competitive salary based on experience. Responsibilities: - Review and analyze medical records - Conduct legal research - Manage all aspects of discovery, including motions practice - Prepare medical records designations, pleadings, and briefs - Represent BIF in litigation before the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission and in Virginia state courts - Attend meetings of the BIF Board and provide legal advice and training - Attend meetings of the CHRB Board and provide legal advice and training Qualifications: - Admission to the Virginia State Bar required - Exceptional written and verbal communication skills - Proficiency in time management - Ability to manage a significant and challenging caseload - Willingness to assist and supervise others - Flexibility to work independently and as a team member - Ability to work well under pressure and adjust priorities without close supervision Experience: A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of civil litigation experience in federal or state court is preferred, as well as experience in state administrative litigation. However, similar litigation experience will also be considered.
