About the Role:

As a Homelessness Prevention Paralegal, you will work alongside our attorneys in the housing program in our Canton office. Your main responsibility will be to provide legal assistance to households at risk of homelessness, including preventing evictions, securing benefits, and making referrals for additional services. You will also have the opportunity to participate in Coordinated Entry and other referral networks, work with government and nonprofit agencies, and help implement our race equity priority and professional development plan.

Requirements:

Associates degree or equivalent experience in serving the low-income community
Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and housing justice
Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively
Willingness to travel, attend court and hearings, and have a car and valid driver's license
Strong computer skills and experience with data entry and reporting
Lived experience, case management, or social work training (preferred)
Bachelor's degree in paralegal studies (preferred)
Bilingual in Spanish (preferred)

Responsibilities:

Conduct outreach, education, and marketing to potential clients
Provide intensive case management to high-need families
Assist attorneys with eviction representation and administrative matters
Make necessary referrals to social services and financial assistance programs
Follow-up with referrals to stabilize other aspects of a client's household
Participate in referral and services networks and work collaboratively with other agencies
Implement LASNNY's race equity priority and professional development plan

Work Environment:

This position operates in a professional law office environment and may require some travel and occasional lifting of office supplies. Reasonable accommodations can be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
