Director Corporate Functions Control Management Governance, Operational Risk Program Management – Job Description

The Director Corporate Functions Control Management Governance, Operational Risk Program Management role at American Express is a key leadership position that will be responsible for establishing and implementing the operational risk and controls strategy for the company's corporate functions. This role will involve working closely with various business units, functional areas, and geographies to ensure that operational risks are identified, assessed, and managed in compliance with enterprise risk management programs and policies. The Director will also lead a team of high-performing professionals to embed control management into the day-to-day operations of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

- Develop and execute operational risk management plans for the corporate functions, including project plans and guidelines.
- Track and identify issues with key risk indicators and risk appetite to ensure operational risks are managed within agreed thresholds.
- Implement the operational risk framework to enable effective risk management and decision-making.
- Lead risk and controls governance forums for corporate functions and share insights and lessons learned across the organization.
- Create procedures and standards related to the execution of operational risk management programs.
- Facilitate understanding and use of the risk governance framework across business units.
- Support the day-to-day internal and external exam management process.
- Develop and administer comprehensive training initiatives and career progression plans for operational risk management.
- Ensure integration of regulatory changes into the operational risk framework and training materials.
- Share insights and best practices with colleagues across the enterprise.

Qualifications:

- 6 years of experience in operational risk management.
- Understanding of critical operational risk management lifecycle activities.
- Excellent project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Expertise in process governance.
- Experience within the financial services industry.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage large teams with varying backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Risk Management, Legal, or related field.
- Experience in translating operational risk strategy into execution guidelines.
- Experience in tracking and identifying issues with key risk indicators and risk appetite.
- Experience in implementing operational risk governance frameworks.
- Experience in creating and communicating operational risk procedures and standards.
- Experience in supporting operational risk exam management processes.

Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
