Job Description

SLC is seeking a civil rights litigator to join their team in Gainesville, Florida. The successful candidate will work on a variety of cases and will have the opportunity to make a significant impact in the areas of constitutional law and civil rights. This is a full-time position with a competitive starting salary of $63,500, with room for growth based on experience.

Responsibilities

The civil rights litigator will be responsible for the following:

- Representing indigent clients in education, health, public benefits, and housing cases
- Litigating in federal and state courts and administrative hearings, including writing pleadings and briefs, conducting discovery and motion practice, handling hearings and trials, and arguing appeals
- Advocating for policy changes at the local and state level
- Conducting training and community education presentations
- Collaborating with pro bono, public interest, and legal aid attorneys

Other responsibilities may include professional development, networking, grant writing, and supervising law student and undergraduate volunteers.

Qualifications

- Excellent research, writing, communication, and collaboration skills
- Three years of experience preferred, but less experienced candidates with excellent qualifications will be considered
- Courtroom experience preferred
- Dedication to public interest work
- Member of The Florida Bar, or admission within one year of hire
- Ability to travel as needed
