Assistant Attorney General I-IV

The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking an Assistant Attorney General (AAG) to join the Child Support Division (CSD) in Brownsville, Texas. This is a full-time position with an expected salary range of $6,781.25 - $7,918.75 per month. The AAG will represent the State of Texas in judicial and administrative family law proceedings, provide legal advice and consultation, and collaborate with other state agencies and community organizations to support Texas families. The ideal candidate will have a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school, be licensed to practice law in Texas, and have experience in family law and trial practice.

Key Responsibilities:
- Represent the State of Texas in legal proceedings to establish paternity, obtain court orders for child support and medical support, and enforce and modify child support orders.
- Provide legal advice, consultation, and technical assistance to the Child Support Program and staff.
- Develop and deliver training related to family law and child support.
- Maintain relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions.
- Attend work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule.
- Ensure security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information.
- Comply with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity.

Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Licensed attorney in good standing with the State Bar of Texas and eligible to practice law in Texas by the start date.
- Knowledge of Family Law and the Texas Family Code.
- Skill in legal writing, mediation, and negotiation.
- Experience in trial practice and conducting legal research.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and effective decision making.
- Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environment.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service.
- Ability to work in person at assigned OAG work location, perform all assigned tasks at designated OAG workspace within OAG work location, and perform in-person work with coworkers for the entirety of every work week.
- Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel.
- Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA.
- Ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs.
- Ability to travel up to 25%.

Preferred qualifications:
- Two years’ experience in handling Family Law cases.
- Jury Trial Experience.
- Experience in handling a high-volume legal practice.
- Ability to proficiently read, write, and speak Spanish.
