Legal Secretary - Workers’ Compensation and Labor & Employment
Binghamton, NY Law Firm Seeking Legal Secretary with Workers’ Compensation and Labor & Employment Experience Salary: Based on experience Job Title: Legal Secretary - Workers’ Compensation and Labor & Employment Experience: Not specified Department: Workers’ Compensation and Labor & Employment The law firm of Coughlin & Gerhart is currently seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Legal Secretary to provide support to our Workers’ Compensation and Labor & Employment practice group attorneys. This position requires the ability to multitask in a fast-paced work environment, excellent communication skills, and a working knowledge of the Workers’ Compensation Board electronic case folder. Responsibilities: • Review new assignments, deadlines, and emails on a daily basis and maintain client follow-up • Calendar deadline dates for time-sensitive documents and follow-up with attorneys • Field numerous telephone calls from clients, carriers, and court personnel and determine appropriate action • Coordinate WC insurance defense carrier and client deposition dates with doctors and/or other law firms • Open new files and maintain client and general files • Prepare legal documents, hearing reports, and time-sensitive appeal applications • File documents with various courts and agencies • Meet with existing and potential clients and provide assistance as needed • Enter attorney(s) time into billing system if requested • Provide legal assistance to co-workers in the same practice group Requirements: • Working knowledge of Workers’ Compensation Board electronic case folder, preferred • Experience completing WC forms and understanding of filing processes/procedures, preferred • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced work environment • Knowledge of NYS Rules of Civil Procedure and filing systems in Supreme and Federal Courts • Proficiency in typing and proofreading • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines • Ability to problem solve and connect with claimants Qualifications: • Notary Public License, preferred • High school diploma required; AAS degree preferred At Coughlin & Gerhart, we provide equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment.
