The Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs is currently seeking interns for the Fall and Spring semesters to support our mission of fighting for civil rights and economic justice for all. As a civil rights intern, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects and gain valuable hands-on experience in the field of civil rights law and advocacy.

Job Title: Civil Rights Legal Intern
Organization: Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs
Department: Civil Rights Litigation and Advocacy
Salary: Unpaid, but eligible for school credit
Experience: Law students

Key Responsibilities:

- Conducting factual and legal research
- Drafting memos and pleadings
- Participating in case/issue area check-ins and strategy sessions
- Supporting litigation and advocacy agenda

Areas of Focus:

- Economic stability and equal opportunity
- Racial and economic segregation
- Safe and affordable housing
- Public services and accommodations
- Equal opportunity in education
- Advocacy for DC prisoners and criminal justice reform

Qualifications:

- Law student currently enrolled in a J.D. program
- Strong interest in civil rights and social justice
- Excellent research, writing, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Availability for a full semester or part-time (15 hours/week minimum) internship
