SEO Job Title: Attorney Advisor GS-11/12/13/14 Civil Rights Division (Remote) Organization: U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Salary Range: $72,533 - $158,860 (does not include locality pay) Open Period: October 9, 2024 – October 18, 2024 Job Summary: - Seeking attorneys to join the Office of the General Counsel (OGC) Civil Rights Division to advise on enforcement of HIPAA regulations. - OGC provides legal counsel to the Secretary of HHS and the Office for Civil Rights (OCR). - OGC is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion and is an equal opportunity employer. - OGC is also committed to compliance with all fair employment practices regarding citizenship and immigration status. - For more information about OGC's mission, visit their website at **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** Duties: - Provide legal advice and services to OCR on enforcement and administration of HIPAA Privacy, Security, and Breach Notification Rules. - Support OCR's enforcement of potential HIPAA violations by covered entities and business associates. - Assist with defending challenges to agency actions before administrative law judges and in federal court. - Provide legal advice on policy development and rulemaking activities related to health privacy and cybersecurity. - Serve as an advisor on matters related to health information privacy and security. Preferred Qualifications: - Demonstrated interest in HIPAA Rules, health information privacy, and cybersecurity. - Administrative or federal court litigation experience preferred. - Familiarity with the Administrative Procedure Act or regulatory experience is desirable. Qualifications Required: - Juris Doctorate (J.D.) or LL.B from an accredited ABA law school. - Active bar status in good standing. - Varying levels of professional legal experience required depending on GS level.
