Job Description:

As a SALT Experienced Manager at BDO, you will be responsible for advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives, recommending alternate courses of action, and identifying methods to comply with tax regulations. In addition, you will be responsible for marketing, networking, and business development within your area of expertise and staying informed about potential changes in tax policy.

Job Duties:

- Conduct research on complex tax situations and provide detailed reports of findings
- Review tax returns and identify significant state tax issues
- Draft responses to notices from state taxing authorities
- Provide assistance with tax exams
- Write tax memorandums and opinions on various tax issues
- Consult with other STS professionals on tax issues
- Develop tax planning strategies and manage engagements
- Assist with business development strategies
- Manage client expectations
- Represent clients before tax authorities on contested issues
- Utilize tax software and research databases
- Provide technical client service for multi-state companies
- Conduct negotiations and draft technical memorandums
- Prepare tax accrual workpapers
- Understand and apply industry standards and firm policies
- Review studies of tax implications and develop alternative courses of action
- Research potential tax strategies
- Suggest marketing approaches for new client acquisition

Supervisory Responsibilities:

- Supervise STS SALT Managers, Senior Associates, and Associates on assigned engagements
- Ensure training on relevant tax software for team members
- Evaluate performance and provide feedback to team members
- Act as a career advisor to Senior Associates and Associates

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree or J.D. preferred
- 6 years of experience in state and local/multistate tax
- Experience supervising tax professionals
- Experience with tax provisions and corporate taxation preferred
- CPA or other relevant certification preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word

- Ability to manage a team and delegate tasks
- Build and maintain relationships with clients and internal personnel
- Executive presence and ability to act as primary contact on engagements
- Advanced knowledge of tax standards and sources of relevant information
- Exposure to tax applications and research tools
