Paralegal, Civil Legal Unit
West Haven, CT Paralegal - Civil Legal Unit at **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** (CVLC) Full-Time - $50,000 to $75,000 salary range Role Summary: The Paralegal at CVLC's Civil Legal Unit (CLU) will work alongside a team of attorneys to provide legal representation to disabled veterans in Connecticut. This position requires strong organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to work in a paperless office and collaborate with various partners in the community. The Paralegal will also have the opportunity to be involved in discussions and strategies to advocate for policy changes that affect veterans. Responsibilities: - Support attorneys in a variety of legal matters, including court appearances and administrative hearings - Manage dockets and prepare electronic and paper filings accurately and on time - Maintain attorneys' calendars and schedules - Communicate with clients, volunteers, opposing counsel, and court clerks - Collect client records and releases - Enter and maintain accurate data in case management system - Collaborate with other practice groups at CVLC to support team members Other Responsibilities: - Participate in intake discussions and legal strategy meetings - Work with VA and community partners to strengthen CVLC's Medical-Legal Partnership Qualifications: - Passion for social justice and helping those in need - Comfortable interacting with low-income and disabled clients - Willingness to learn and support multiple areas of legal practice - Flexible and comfortable with technology - Strong team player - Paralegal experience, preferably in a firm setting Compensation: - Salary based on experience and competitive with other legal aid programs - Range of $50,000 to $75,000 - Generous benefits package including health, dental, vision, and life insurance; retirement plan; paid time off and sick leave; and family-friendly workplace Diversity and Inclusion: CVLC is committed to building a diverse and inclusive organization.
