Jr. Legal Assistant (DMA I)

Job Title: Jr. Legal Assistant

Salary: $19.05/hr (SCA contract)

Overview:

The Jr. Legal Assistant will work under the direction of a Supervisory Legal Assistant and provide automated litigation assistance using various office software. They will also be responsible for maintaining case data, scheduling appointments and interviews, and providing administrative support to the legal team.

Key Responsibilities:

- Provide automated litigation assistance using various office software
- Input and docket case data into an automated case management system
- Open new cases, send demand letters, subpoenas, and file liens
- Arrange travel and prepare itineraries and travel authorizations
- Maintain calendar of assigned active cases and track filing, hearing, and trial dates
- Provide word processing and data entry/retrieval
- Answer inquiries regarding case related information
- Receive telephone calls and visitors and distribute incoming mail and packages
- Support meeting set up and break down
- Operate office equipment such as copiers, fax machines, and scanners
- Type routine forms and letters
- Assist with organizing and closing case files
- Perform administrative tasks and assist with small projects
- Serve as backup to reception as needed

Minimum Requirements:

- Must be able to obtain and maintain MRPT facility credentials/authorization
- One year of experience with litigation support projects or undergraduate degree
- Coursework in legal related studies is helpful
- Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Familiarity with Windows Operating systems, Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
- Experience with government networks environments, internet, and server-based databases
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
- Comfortable working in an office setting

Preferred Qualifications:

- Prior experience working in a legal office setting
- Experience with data entry, calendar management, and docketing

Salary Information:

This position supports an SCA (Service Contract Act) contract, and the hourly wage is determined by the Department of Labor. This position is classified as a General Clerk III and the hourly wage is $19.05/hr and is eligible for Health and Welfare.
