Manistee, MI Phone: **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***; Email: **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** ATTN: HR Job Title: Prosecutor – **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** Salary Range: Dependent on qualifications and experience Experience: Minimum of 3 years of litigation experience, prior criminal law experience preferred Organization: **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** Tribal Government Department: Prosecutor’s Office Location: Manistee, MI Start Date: December 2024 Indian Preference applies in accordance with Ordinance #15-600-02 Responsibilities: - Serve as the chief law enforcement officer responsible for prosecuting violations of the Tribe’s Constitution, criminal laws, conservation laws, ordinances, regulations, and resolutions in Tribal Court - Independently exercise prosecutorial discretion - Review charges and complaints to determine appropriate charges and defendants - Review requests for arrest and search warrants to ensure tribal constitutional requirements are met - Represent the Tribe in child welfare matters in state jurisdictions - Attend consultations and meetings related to child welfare and domestic violence - Establish working relationships and protocols with Tribal, State, and Federal agencies for coordinating criminal investigations, prosecutions, and law enforcement activities - Supervise staff and activities of the Prosecutor’s Office - Manage the Special Domestic Violence Criminal Jurisdiction grant - Collaborate with Tribal Public Safety Department to improve law enforcement services - Work with Tribal Courts to improve judicial services and assist with case management and docket preparation - Make recommendations to Tribal Council and Tribal Judiciary for development of criminal laws and procedures - Maintain confidentiality and comply with all applicable laws and procedures - Other duties as directed by supervisory authority Qualifications: - J.D. degree from an ABA accredited law school - License to practice law in the State of Michigan - Previous litigation experience in a tribal court system - Minimum of 3 years of litigation experience, prior criminal law experience preferred - Understanding of the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) and Michigan Indian Family Preservation Act (MIFPA), experience in child welfare system preferred Skills and Abilities: - Strong verbal and written communication skills - Strong organizational, project management, and presentation skills - Strong reasoning and judgment skills - Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills - Attention to detail and accuracy - Ability to work cooperatively with other departments - Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks - Commitment to confidentiality Supervisory Responsibilities: - Direct supervision of legal staff - Responsible for hiring, training, rewarding, and disciplining subordinates - Plan, assign, and direct work Physical Demands: - Sitting for long periods of time - Frequent walking - Occasional reaching, bending, kneeling, or stretching - Manual dexterity for operating office equipment and keyboarding - Normal or corrected to normal range of sight and hearing - Ability to carry work materials up to 25 pounds Working Environment: - Climate-controlled office environment - Flexible work schedule may be necessary - Ability to handle stressful and compromising situations while remaining professional - Occasional overnight or local travel may be required for meetings or trainings Application Instructions: - Obtain application form from the Tribe’s website or contact Human Resources - Submit completed application and copy of Tribal ID (if applicable) to HR Department - Pass pre-employment interviews, skills testing, credentialing, drug screening, background investigations, and reference checks - Possess a valid Driver’s License and be insurable under the Tribe’s insurance policy - Successfully complete a 90-day introductory period Conditions of Employment: - Superior performance in selection process - Indian Preference applies in accordance with Ordinance #15-600-02 - Salary dependent on qualifications and experience For further information, please contact the LRBOI HR Department. |
