Syracuse, NY Paralegal - Eviction Defense Program: Job Summary and Salary Information The Legal Aid Society of Mid-New York, Inc. (LASMNY) is seeking a Paralegal to join their Eviction Defense Program (EDP) in Syracuse, NY. This full-time position offers a salary range of $42,250 - $63,378 annually, based on experience. About LASMNY LASMNY is a non-profit public interest law firm that provides free legal assistance to low-income individuals who are unable to afford a lawyer. With a focus on thirteen counties in New York and an Agricultural Worker Program that services the entire state, LASMNY is dedicated to helping those in need access justice. Mission Statement The mission of LASMNY is to provide free legal assistance to low-income individuals facing civil legal problems that impact their basic needs. This includes stabilizing finances, protecting against domestic violence, obtaining access to healthcare, avoiding homelessness, and increasing household income. LASMNY also targets specific vulnerable populations such as senior citizens, victims of domestic violence, people with disabilities, refugees and immigrants, and veterans. Job Summary The Paralegal will support attorneys in the EDP, primarily in landlord-tenant matters, by providing legal assistance and advocacy to individuals and families at risk of homelessness. This includes scheduling and calendaring court appearances, screening applicants, interviewing clients and witnesses, and assisting with case preparation and research. The Paralegal will also participate in outreach and community education events and maintain accurate records and files. Job Qualifications To be considered for this position, candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree, Associate’s degree, paralegal certificate, or equivalent experience. Previous work experience in a legal environment is preferred, as well as knowledge and understanding of legal problems and the needs of low-income individuals. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computerized legal research is required, and bilingual or multilingual abilities are a plus.
