Associate Director of the Hubbell Environmental Law Initiative

Reputed Firm is seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual to fill the role of Associate Director for the Hubbell Environmental Law Initiative. This is a full-time position with a 75% regular benefitted Professional and Scientific appointment and a 25% Instructional faculty position. The ideal candidate will work closely with the Faculty Director and Program Director in organizing and implementing HELI programs, joint initiatives with other departments and schools, and identifying priorities for HELI-supported research, outreach, and programming. They will also be responsible for overseeing the HELI's budget, engaging with the local and regional environmental bars, and collaborating with HELI partners on campus and in the community.

Key Responsibilities:

- Organize and implement HELI programs, including workshops, conferences, and webinars
- Conduct research and reach out to experts on current topics of interest
- Moderate events
- Implement joint initiatives with other University of Iowa departments and schools
- Identify priorities for HELI-supported research, outreach, and programming
- Write blog posts and other short pieces for the HELI website
- Oversee the HELI's budget
- Ensure compliance with legal/regulatory standards
- Engage with local and regional environmental bars
- Engage with Iowa Law alumni
- Oversee HELI-sponsored projects and collaborations

This position is also eligible for a 25% Instructional Track Faculty Appointment, with responsibilities including teaching two courses per academic year, coaching the annual environmental moot court team, and supervising law student research assistants working on HELI-sponsored research and projects.

Requirements:

- Excellent academic credentials, including a JD degree
- Five years of relevant experience, with at least two years in legal practice or law school teaching
- Demonstrated interest in environmental, energy, and natural resources law
- Potential in teaching in the field of environmental, energy, and natural resources law
- Excellent research, analytic, writing, and communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent organizational skills, including strong prioritization, accuracy, and attention to detail
- Ability to effectively interact with individuals of varying perspectives

Desirable Qualifications:

- Prior teaching experience
- Experience in environmental, energy, and natural resources law
- Experience in supervising
- Iowa bar membership or ability to waive in
