The United States District Court for the Western District of Texas is seeking a Term Law Clerk to join the team of U.S. Magistrate Judge Matthew Watters. This is a two-year term position, with the possibility of a one-year or career law clerk appointment. The position offers a competitive salary range of $72,553 - $103,409 (JSP 11-13) and includes benefits such as health insurance, scheduled holidays, and periodic salary increases.

Position Overview:
- Assist the magistrate judge with the civil docket by preparing for hearings, researching legal issues, and drafting initial drafts of orders and reports and recommendations
- Responsible for monitoring and managing the efficient progression of civil cases
- Support the magistrate judge with the criminal docket by drafting necessary orders and researching criminal law and procedure issues
- Position currently posted for a term clerk with a two-year term, but will consider a one-year or career law clerk appointment

Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited law school
- Excellent academic credentials
- Superior legal research and writing skills
- Proficient in computer-assisted research
- Team player and willing to perform administrative tasks
- Preference given to applicants with civil litigation experience, familiarity with federal law and procedure, and journal or other legal-writing experience
