ASSISTANT APPELLATE COURT ATTORNEY
Albany, NY Organization: Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, Third Judicial Department Position Title: Two-Year Clerkship in Law Research Department Location: Albany, New York Salary: $82,198 Positions Available: 7 Application Deadline: October 4, 2024 The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, Third Judicial Department is seeking applications for a two-year clerkship in the Court's Law Research Department, commencing in August 2025. The positions available will be in either of the following titles, depending on the qualifications of the selected applicants: - Assistant Appellate Court Attorney JG: 23 - Confidential Temporary Appointment The ideal candidate will have graduated from an accredited law school with an exceptional academic record, such as being a member of the law review, graduating in the top 10% of their class, or graduating cum laude or magna cum laude. They must also be admitted to the New York State Bar within 18 months of appointment. As an Assistant Appellate Court Attorney, the selected individuals will receive on-the-job training in researching and analyzing legal issues and questions for the court, as well as performing other related duties. They will work under direct supervision in units located in the Appellate Divisions and the Appellate Terms of the Supreme Court. The positions will be located in the Appellate Division, Third Department in Albany, New York. The appointed individuals will research and analyze legal questions and issues, prepare preliminary reports and confidential memoranda, check for accuracy of citations, and perform other related duties as directed by the Chief Appellate Court Attorney, Deputy Chief Appellate Court Attorney, Deputy Clerk, and/or Clerk of the Court. The Unified Court System may reassign the appointees to any position in the same title in this promotion unit based on the needs of the court. Therefore, applicants should be willing to work at any location within the promotion unit.
