Overview:

- Responsibilities include providing daily representation, strategic advocacy, and outreach to low-income individuals and community groups

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Gather evidence, advise clients, draft legal documents, and conduct civil lawsuits
- Interview clients and witnesses with cultural competence
- Represent clients in court and before government agencies
- Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations for clients and community
- Provide legal assistance in various areas of civil law, with emphasis on eviction defense and housing matters
- Design and implement outreach and community legal education programs
- May supervise and coordinate activities of legal, clerical, volunteer, or student workers

Qualifications:
- Licensed to practice law in Texas
- Prior experience in contested landlord-tenant, housing, or foreclosure prevention cases preferred
- Strong understanding of Texas Rules of Civil Procedure and Evidence
- Fluent in Spanish (preferred)
- Excellent communication skills and work ethic
- Ability to think and plan strategically and engage in occasional work-related travel

Salary and Benefits:
- Entry-level starting salary of $66,500 per year, with potential for higher salary based on experience

Fluency in Spanish is preferred, as well as the ability to think and plan strategically and engage in occasional work-related travel.

As a Staff Attorney, you will have the opportunity to gather evidence, advise clients, draft legal documents, and conduct civil lawsuits. In addition, you will provide legal assistance in various areas of civil law, with a focus on eviction defense, landlord-tenant law, and housing matters.

In addition to daily representation, our Staff Attorney will also engage in strategic advocacy and outreach to low-income individuals and community groups. This may include designing and implementing community legal education programs and working closely with the community to further our mission.
