Engage in high-impact applied research to drive the next generation of customer experiences - Translate complex technical work into tangible business goals The AI Foundations Team: - Central to Capital One's vision for AI, responsible for all aspects of the research life cycle - Partner with academia and collaborate with product, technology, and business leaders to apply AI to our business - Opportunity to work with a broad stack of technologies, including Pytorch, AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, and more Responsibilities: - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products - Leverage cutting-edge technologies to extract insights from large volumes of data - Build AI foundation models through all phases of development - Engage in high-impact applied research to drive the next generation of customer experiences - Translate complex technical work into tangible business goals The Ideal Candidate: - Passionate about AI and making a positive impact - Continuously researching and evaluating emerging technologies - Thrives on solving big, undefined problems and not afraid to share new ideas - A leader who challenges conventional thinking and is passionate about talent development - Technical expertise in open-source languages and hands-on experience with AI foundation models and cloud computing platforms - Deep understanding of AI methodologies and experience building large deep learning models - Experience delivering libraries, platform level code, or solution level code to existing products - Demonstrated ability to come up with new ideas or improve upon existing ideas in machine learning Basic Qualifications: - PhD with at least 2 years of experience or MS with at least 4 years of experience in Applied Research - Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a PhD Preferred Qualifications: - PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering or related fields - Experience in NLP research or a Masters degree with 5 years of industrial NLP research experience - Multiple publications on topics related to pre-training of large language models - Experience training a large language model from scratch with 10B parameters and 500B tokens - Publications in deep learning theory and top AI conferences - Deep knowledge of deep learning algorithmic and/or optimizer design - Experience with compiler design and optimizing training for large deep learning models - Experience deploying a fine-tuned large language model Salary Information: - Minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role vary by location - Part-time roles will be prorated based on agreed upon number of hours - New York City (Hybrid On-Site): $276,000 - $315,000 for Applied Researcher II - San Francisco, California (Hybrid On-site): $292,400 - $333,700 for Applied Researcher II Incentives: - This role is eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, including cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives (LTI) -
