Job Description:

The **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** (DFPS) is seeking a highly qualified Legal CPS Regional Attorney III to provide direct representation in court for legal cases involving Child Protective Services (CPS). The position also offers the opportunity to provide expertise, guidance, and instruction in family law, civil litigation, and agency policy. The Legal CPS Regional Attorney III will be responsible for monitoring the progress of all DFPS court cases within their assigned area and ensuring timely and appropriate resolution. This position requires strong communication skills and the ability to work with a variety of individuals, including caseworkers, supervisors, attorneys, judges, and the general public.

Essential Job Functions:

- Advise staff, county and district attorneys on legal matters and interpret laws, regulations, and policies
- Provide representation in court cases and handle trials for most cases
- Conduct legal training for agency staff and the legal community
- Coordinate specialized legal efforts with appropriate experts
- Prepare legal opinions, briefs, pleadings, and reports
- Assist in formulating and establishing office systems
- Promote and ensure respect for cultural diversity
- Attend work regularly in accordance with agency leave policy

Knowledge Skills Abilities:

- Knowledge of family law, probate law, guardianship law, elder law, and civil practice
- Ability to synthesize law, administrative rules, agency policies and goals, and best practice recommendations to reach an appropriate interpretation
- Ability to convey complex legal ideas and instructions clearly to staff
- Ability to develop and maintain professional working relationships with agency staff and the legal community

Registration or Licensure Requirements:

- Licensed to practice law in the State of Texas
