Albany, NY Assistant Attorney General (AAG) for Charities Bureau Transaction Section in New York State Salary: Competitive salary, commensurate with experience and qualifications Experience: Minimum of 2 years experience in handling corporate and/or real estate transactions. Location: Albany or New York City, New York Reference No.: CHA/TS_AAG_3713 Application Deadline: September 13, 2024 The Office of the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** (OAG) is seeking an experienced transactions attorney to serve as an Assistant Attorney General (AAG) in the Charities Bureau Transaction Section. The Charities Bureau is the primary regulator of New York's charities sector, which employs one sixth of the state's private workforce and provides national models in arts and culture, social service, religious, and advocacy organizations. The AAG will handle a caseload, work independently under the supervision of the Transactions Section Chief, and may work with accountants and attorneys from other bureaus within the OAG. Responsibilities: - Manage own caseload, working independently under supervision of Transactions Section Chief - Review transactional documents such as purchase and sale agreements, appraisals, governance documents, and loan agreements - Draft court documents when necessary - Conduct virtual and in-person meetings with counsel regarding handled matters - Give presentations to the public as part of the Bureau's outreach programs - Familiarize with N-PCL, Internal Revenue Code provisions applicable to tax-exempt entities, and RCL (preferred) Requirements: - Minimum of 2 years experience in handling corporate and/or real estate transactions - Familiarity with practice in New York State Courts - Comfortable reviewing financial statements and tax returns - Some knowledge of N-PCL and Internal Revenue Code provisions applicable to tax-exempt entities - Strong written and verbal skills - Commitment to public service - Must reside in (or intend to soon become a resident of) New York State and be admitted to practice law in New York State - Must be a citizen of the United States (per Public Officers Law) - Two-year commitment upon being hired is a condition of employment Benefits: - Competitive salary - Comprehensive New York State benefits package, including paid leave, health, dental, vision, and retirement benefits - Family-friendly policies - Workplace Flexibilities Program with options for telecommuting and alternative work schedules Application Process: - Applications must be submitted online by September 13, 2024. - Applicants must submit a cover letter, resume, legal writing sample, and list of three professional references. - Cover letter should address location preference (Albany or New York City) and why the applicant is interested in the position. - References will not be contacted until after the interview process. - Candidates from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply. - For assistance with the application process, contact Legal Recruitment via email or phone.
