This position is specifically within the Federal Incarcerated Individuals Litigation Section, handling federal litigation initiated by individuals incarcerated in New York State prisons. The Litigation Bureau represents the State of New York and its agencies and officers in state and federal courts, handling a wide range of civil matters related to state operations and legislation. The selected candidate will be responsible for all aspects of litigation, from pleading to discovery to motions. With satisfactory performance, there is potential for advancement to conducting trials as first chair. This position also involves handling certain matters in the New York State Supreme Court, including Article 78 Petitions filed by incarcerated individuals and Petitions for the New York State Department of Health to release vital records. Qualifications for this role include admission to practice law in New York State, excellent legal skills, strong organizational and interpersonal communication abilities, and proficiency with technology.
