Supervising Attorney - Full Time - Prince George's County Office, Landover, MD

Salary Range: $96,000.00 - $110,000.00 Annually

JOB SUMMARY:

Maryland Legal Aid is seeking a Supervising Attorney for our Prince George's County office, located in Landover, MD. The Supervising Attorney will be responsible for overseeing a team of CINA attorneys and paralegals, as well as assisting the chief attorney in managing the office. They will also handle their own caseload of Child in Need of Assistance (CINA) cases, representing children in cases of abuse or neglect.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Plan and assign legal work for the office/unit in consultation with the chief attorney.
- Develop and evaluate strategies to accomplish the work of the office/unit.
- Supervise attorneys and paralegals, and manage clerical employees.
- Monitor and provide guidance for case handling of staff attorneys and paralegals.
- Represent clients by maintaining a caseload and co-counseling with staff attorneys.
- Identify and address systemic legal issues.
- Ensure grant compliance and prepare required reports.
- Screen and interview potential employees and make hiring recommendations.
- Train and develop staff.
- Assume duties of the chief attorney when necessary.
- Other duties as assigned within the scope of the position's essential functions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Admitted to practice in the State of Maryland or eligible for admission.
- Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Knowledge of civil law, judicial procedures, and rules of evidence.
- Strong research, critical thinking, writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to provide quality legal advocacy for low-income and diverse clients.
- At least five years of experience in Child Advocacy law.
- Interest in public-interest litigation or providing nonprofit legal services is a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is primarily performed in an office setting, with some community work and court appearances.
