Advocate - Pro Bono CARE Court
El Cajon, CA Advocate - Pro Bono CARE Court: Assisting Low-Income Communities in San Diego County H1: Join Our Team as a Pro Bono Advocate - Help Those in Need H2: Advocate for Equal Access to Justice in San Diego Position Summary: - Support the Pro Bono Team Supervising Attorney and CARE staff attorney - Assist clinic participants in East County and South County with court forms and declarations - Provide procedural information, community referrals, and information on alternatives to CARE Act proceedings - Coordinate remote clinic services - Gather information from clinic participants and perform administrative tasks Organization: - Legal Aid Society of San Diego (LASSD) - Serving San Diego County since 1953 - Empowering clients to access legal and social systems and fight against poverty and injustice - Dedicated to providing equal access to justice Essential Functions: - Greet and check-in clinic participants or answer phone calls - Maintain clinic sign-in sheet and other administrative files - Coordinate remote clinic services - Distribute and review applications for services, conduct interviews, and assist with court forms - Perform clerical and secretarial duties - Update printed materials and assist with outgoing mail - Perform data entry and clerical assistance for statistics and grant reports - Comply with program and grant requirements - Other duties as assigned Qualifications: - B.A. degree or A.A. degree with paralegal certificate, or equivalent experience - 1 year of office experience - Ability to communicate professionally and empathetically with clinic participants - Ability to handle calls from people with communication barriers - Strong communication and computer skills - Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions - Secretarial skills and ability to work independently and in a team - Reliable transportation Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Fluency in Spanish - Commitment to serving low-income communities - Ability to work with diverse backgrounds Salary and Benefits: - Hourly position with a pay rate of $21.98 - $30.77 - Starting pay rate of $25.28 - Bilingual pay increase for passing oral and written tests in languages other than English - Generous benefits package, including paid vacation and sick leave, medical, dental, vision, and life benefits, retirement and savings plans, and loan repayment program Diversity and Inclusion: - LASSD is an equal opportunity employer - We hire without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, disability, medical condition, genetic information, marital status, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, veteran or military status, and other protected statuses - We are committed to promoting diversity and inclusion in our hiring, retention, promotion, and engagement with outside counsel and legal community initiatives Join our team at LASSD and make a difference in the lives of low-income individuals and families in San Diego County. #justicebeginshere |
