Paralegal - Farmworker Rights Project
Dubuque, IA Full-Time Paralegal Position Available at Farmworker Rights Project in **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** Salary Range: $39,373 - $63,592 per year, depending on experience Organization: **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** Department: Farmworker Rights Project Location: Statewide (Cedar Rapids, Council Bluffs, Davenport, Des Moines, Dubuque, Iowa City, Mason City, Ottumwa, Sioux City, and Waterloo) Job Type: Full-Time Language Requirements: Fluency in Spanish and English strongly preferred Background: - **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***’s Farmworker Rights Project provides civil legal assistance to low-income agricultural workers throughout Iowa - Clients include migrant and seasonal farmworkers and their families - Farmworkers face legal issues related to employment, wages, labor, health and safety, housing, and harassment - Robust outreach presence, particularly during summer months, traveling around the state to reach workers where they live and work Responsibilities: - Assist with intake, including initial applications for legal help and related interviews and forms - Provide litigation support, including drafting correspondence, discovery and simple pleadings, and other tasks as directed and supervised by a licensed attorney - Organize documents and perform related tasks - Assist in managing case management systems - Possible representation of clients in administrative hearings (such as unemployment) - Develop outreach plans, prepare outreach materials in English and Spanish, and conduct in-person outreach with the Farmworker Rights team at times and places most likely to reach farmworkers (evening work and statewide travel may be required) - Other duties as assigned, depending on project and office needs Qualifications: - Associate or bachelor’s degree required - Preference given to applicants with a paralegal degree and/or equivalent experience working as a paralegal - Fluency in Spanish and English strongly preferred due to the composition of Iowa’s agricultural workforce Opening/Closing Date: Applications accepted on an ongoing basis Salary/Benefits: - Salary range of $39,373 - $63,592 per year, depending on years of relevant experience - Excellent fringe benefits, including generous leave, insurance, and retirement package - Language skills compensation differential of $1,500 per year may be available to qualified candidates To Apply: - Email letter of application (indicate geographic office preference), resume, academic transcripts, and names, addresses, and phone numbers of at least three professional references (external applicants only) to **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** and Dan Feltes, **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** - **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer Join our dynamic, collaborative team at the Farmworker Rights Project and make a difference in the lives of low-income and migrant agricultural workers in Iowa.
