Senior Lead Counsel I - US Personal Bank Mortgage
O Fallon, MO Senior Lead Counsel I - US Personal Bank Mortgage (Hybrid) The Senior Lead Counsel I will provide legal support to the U.S. Personal Bank Mortgage business of Citi. This individual will work closely with business management and will focus on ensuring compliance with state licensing requirements and maintaining all necessary licenses. They will also provide legal coverage to the Document Services group and serve as the primary legal contact for title curative matters. The attorney will report to a Director for U.S. Personal Bank Mortgage and will work with various business partners to support legal and regulatory change management, external regulatory exams, internal compliance reviews, and audits. Key Responsibilities: • Ensure compliance with state licensing requirements by preparing and filing applications and renewals as necessary. • Work with business partners to address any licensing related issues and maintain necessary licenses. • Collaborate with regulators to address questions and resolve licensing deficiencies. • Assist with customer complaints received from states’ attorneys general and/or regulators. • Respond to regulators during licensing examinations. • Review products, offerings, business plans/strategies, consumer documents and disclosures to ensure compliance with state and federal laws, as well as internal policies and procedures. • Provide support for issue identification and remediation, Document Services, licensing oversight/management, post-close, release/reconveyance, legacy title issues, state laws and licensing, and state regulatory exams. • Advise senior management on operational, legal, regulatory, and related risks and develop solutions to mitigate these risks. • Serve as a subject matter expert for assigned state laws and regulations related to mortgage originations and servicing, consumer protection requirements, and the performing servicing provisions of Truth-in-Lending Act/Regulation Z and Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act/Regulation X. Qualifications: • Juris Doctor degree and a license in good standing to practice law in at least one state. • 5-7 years of relevant legal experience in financial services. • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. • Excellent analytical and organizational skills. • Demonstrated ability to write effectively. • Experience managing attorneys and paralegals. • Familiarity with state and federal regulators.
