Litigation Legal Assistant

H1: Experienced Litigation Legal Assistant Needed at Law Firm in Des Moines H2: Responsibilities and Requirements for the Role Whitfield & Eddy Law, a reputable law firm in Des Moines, is seeking an experienced Litigation Legal Assistant to join their team. This full-time position will involve supporting 2 to 3 attorneys in various areas of law, including product liability, real estate, insurance defense, and construction. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of experience as a litigation legal assistant in a law firm or corporate legal department. A bachelor's or paralegal degree is preferred, but not required. Responsibilities: - Produce legal documents from attorney instructions, including transcribing dictation and drafts. - Proofread legal documents for proper formatting, grammar, and inclusion of all necessary information. - Assist in preparation for depositions, trials, and post-trial submissions. - Timely processing of state and federal filings. - Open and maintain legal files, and provide case management assistance. - Maintain attorney email and calendars. - Communicate with clients, witnesses, and court officials. - Work closely with clients, staff, and attorneys to assist with discovery requests and responses. - Communicate with potential new clients to collect information for conflict searches and schedule initial attorney conferences. - Assist with billing and other accounting tasks. - May work with Abstracts of Title and Title Opinions, and prepare real estate closing and transfer documents. - Perform back-up responsibilities for other legal assistants and other projects as assigned. Requirements: - Minimum of 3 years of litigation legal assistant experience. - Bachelor's or paralegal degree preferred. - Experience with electronic filing and software such as Surepoint, iManage, and Big Hand. - Excellent time management, organizational, and communication skills. - Strong technical computer skills, including proficiency in MS Word and pdf conversion software. - Attention to detail and ability to work independently. - Working knowledge of legal terminology. - Ability to organize and manage multiple cases. - Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality. - Ability to work effectively in a team environment. - Familiarity with real estate closing documents/procedures preferred. - Strong grammar and typing skills. - Ability to lift up to 5 to 15 pounds.
