JOB OVERVIEW As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the UC College of Medicine has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients. Duties will include participation in the experimental design, execution, and analysis of federally funded research projects focused on pathogenesis-driven development of biomarkers and therapies for rare lung diseases and pulmonary innate immunity. The position is in a basic and translational laboratory directed by Dr. Francis X. McCormack M.D. The successful candidate will have a successful track record of peer reviewed research and publications. **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS *Conduct research experiments in rare lung disease models, and pleurodesis models. *Gather and analyze research data, prepare data summaries and reports. *Participate in formal presentations of research results at Divisional and Departmental conferences. *Attend Divisional, Departmental, and Institutional conferences. *Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals. *Participate/assist in grant preparation and writing. *Remain current with all compliance and laboratory training requirements (e.g. IACUC training for animal work). *Remain informed of developments in the field and develop professional expertise. *Participate in weekly individual and group laboratory meetings. *Participate in lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies, as needed. *Teach techniques to others, train, and mentor junior research staff. *Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities. *Play an active role in seeking career and research advice, both from the faculty supervisor and from other faculty members. *Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time. REQUIRED EDUCATION Doctoral Degree in the appropriate field or discipline, or the recognized terminal degree, or the equivalent foreign equivalent. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE *In-depth knowledge of specialized field, process or discipline. *May require experience with specialized software programs. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS CONSIDERED *In-depth knowledge of mammalian biology. *In depth knowledge of pulmonary biology is desirable. *Laboratory experience with cell culture, molecular biology, experimental animals is preferred. *Experience with specialized software programs such Excel, Powerpoint, Prism. *Advanced surgical skills are desirable.
