Part Time Library Trainer
Lafayette, IN Work type: Part Time Hourly Location: Lafayette, IN Categories: Office/Clerical, Other General Description of Position: Responsible for providing information service in the College library and basic informational assistance to the public. Additionally, teach information literacy classes for students and faculty. Major Responsibilities: Assists library users with library resources in all formats, including books, library databases, library website, MyIvy, Windows Office and other basic computer applications. Work to expand information literacy into the curriculum campus/site-wide. Classes include: 1. General information literacy classes (covers the basics of how to use the library, find articles in databases, web evaluation, and citing sources) 2. How to use Noodletools 3. Subject-specific classes Assist with maintenance of various library administrative functions (e.g. processing new materials, creating brochures, resource lists, catalog input, book processing, and/or other project support.) Perform routine office procedures including mail, telephone calls, typing, word processing, filing, and operating various types of small office equipment. May assist as requested on Gipe Hall Team. This position spans the spectrum of library services, traditionally defined as instruction, circulation, reserves, interlibrary loan, technical services, computer/LAN assistant, and other clerical support such as collecting statistics/usage of those library services. This is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. Other duties logically associated with this position may be assigned. All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in related field. Prior experience with class instruction or training required. Well versed in library research methods. Proficient at typing and computer skills required. Knowledge of various software packages (such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and modern office technology required. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community required. Must demonstrate ability to promote an inclusive environment that reflects the broad diversity and backgrounds represented by our students and employees. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree preferred One year of related experience is preferred. Knowledge of standard library practices and procedures is preferred. Other Requirements: Official college transcripts required upon hiring, and employment contingent on acceptable criminal background checks.
