Paralegal
Asheville, NC Paralegal Certificate The law firm is seeking an experienced Paralegal to join our team in Asheville, NC. This full-time position is responsible for supporting attorneys in all aspects of litigation related to case preparation, management, and execution. The ideal candidate will have experience in Long Term Care defense and/or Medical Malpractice defense. Salary: Based on experience and qualifications. Job Title: Paralegal Experience Information: 2 years of experience in Civil Litigation is required for this position. Responsibilities: • Obtaining, reviewing, analyzing, and summarizing legal documentation pertaining to cases. • Scheduling depositions and other meetings with clients, witnesses, experts, opposing counsel, court reporters, and others. • Identifying, locating, interviewing, and evaluating potential experts and sending expert packages to parties for review. • Tracking requests for documents and regularly following up on progress of receipt. • Regularly reviewing files and proactively working to move cases forward. • Documenting files and updating clients when necessary regarding status of case. • Participating in all aspects of discovery and file or trial preparation as required by supervisor. • Preparing draft discovery documents. • Maintaining an expert database and researching opposing counsel’s experts. • Making travel arrangements and providing directions and other necessary information to attorney. • Performing research pertaining to legal issues and precedents related to particular cases. • Filing documents with the various courts. • Performing clerical duties such as typing and filing. • Entering billable time into computer on a daily basis. • Meeting a minimum billing requirement of 140 hours per month (1680 per year). • Performing non-billable functions, including but not limited to, participating on strategic committees, assisting in seminar development, assisting with production of presentations, mentoring and training new employees. • Ensuring all functions are performed in exact accordance with applicable client guidelines. • Remaining flexible and open to requests for support or assistance outside of the scope of this job description and to other duties as directed by the Management team. Skills Required: • Knowledge of legal principles and practices. • Knowledge of the various courts, their rules and filing requirements. • Interpersonal skills necessary for effective communication with attorneys, staff, and clients. • Organizational, prioritization, and attention to detail skills. • Impeccable integrity in confidential matters. • Accurate typing ability of 45 wpm and comprehensive computer and office equipment experience. Education: A Bachelor's degree or a certified paralegal education is preferred for this position. Work Hours: This position may require more than 40 hours per week to meet financial goal requirements. Physical Requirements: • Sitting, bending, and stooping. • Computer keyboarding and continuous use of the hands. • Telephone contact and reading. • Lifting of 25-50 lbs. or more. • Driving to offsite locations for the collection of records and information or filing of documents with courts. Salary and Benefits: Salary for this position is based on experience and qualifications.
