Utility Maintenance I - Water
Temple Terrace, FL City of **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** STARTING SALARY: $17.76 - $19.54 per hour POSITION: Utilities Maintenance I - Water POSITION NO: 7.166 DEPT: Utilities This is semi-skilled and heavy manual work involving the installation, maintenance, repair, and general upkeep of water and sewer distribution systems, meters, hydrants, lift stations, wells, and treatment plant facilities. Employee assists the Utility Maintenance II or the Utility Services Technician II and other Utility Divisions. Must be capable of independently performing his/her duties. Employee may be required to work weekends, holidays, after-hours, and on-call duty. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge, Abilities and Skills Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety practices associated with mechanical equipment and machinery. Knowledge of the tools, materials, machinery, and equipment used to install, maintain, and repair water mains, sewer mains, service lines, meters, and other water and sewer distribution system components. Ability to maintain buildings and grounds, or ability to learn within six months of employment. Ability to learn methods used to maintain mechanical equipment within six months of employment. Ability to physically perform assigned duties; perform heavy manual work in all weather conditions. Ability to lift, carry, pull, push, and maneuver bulky and heavy materials; lift objects up to 75 pounds and routinely lift up to 50 pounds overhead. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to obtain water or wastewater training certifications. Training, Certification, and Experience High School Diploma or GED. Experience in general maintenance and repair work. Minimum of one year experience in water distribution system maintenance. Or, an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Special Requirements Valid Florida driver’s license. Valid Florida Commercial “B” driver’s license or obtain license within 90 days of employment. Required for Water Distribution Maintenance, a Florida Water & Pollution Control Operators Association (FWPCOA) Water Distribution Class “C” Certification or obtain other water distribution certification within 18 months of employment. Required for Water Distribution Maintenance, a Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Level 3 Water Distribution Operator license or obtain license within two years of employment. Required for Sewer Collection Maintenance, a Florida Water & Pollution Control Operators Association (FWPCOA) Wastewater Collection Class “C” Certification or obtain other wastewater collection certification in 18 months. Copies of required certification(s) must be submitted with the application.
