This includes criminal prosecutions, civil lawsuits, and actions to collect judgments and restitution on behalf of victims and taxpayers. The district has three offices located in Hammond, Fort Wayne, and South Bend. Job Description: The Northern District of Indiana is currently accepting applications for Law Internship (Clerks) positions for the 2025 academic year. Interns will be assigned projects from both the Civil and Criminal Divisions and will work with several different Assistant U.S. Attorneys (AUSAs) over the course of the internship. Typical duties may include performing legal research, drafting legal documents, assisting in trial preparations, and observing court proceedings. In limited instances, interns may be allowed to represent the government in routine hearings under the supervision of an AUSA. The primary goal of the program is to introduce interns to the federal legal system, develop their legal skills, and provide a valuable and enjoyable internship experience. Important Announcement Information: This is an open continuous announcement, and applications will be accepted throughout the standard academic year. However, to be considered for the Fall 2025 semester, applications must be submitted by Friday, May 30, 2025. Conditions of Appointment: Compensation: This internship is not compensated, but work-study or academic credit may be available through a student's law school. Work Schedule: Interns must be able to work at least 10 hours per week for the duration of the semester. Work Location: This is not a remote-work position, and interns will be expected to work at the designated location. Outside Employment Restriction: Interns are not permitted to work in a legal capacity, either in the private or public sector, throughout the duration of the internship. Qualifications: To be eligible for this position, applicants must meet the following requirements: U.S. Citizenship: Applicants must be a United States Citizen or National. Selective Service: Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must certify that they have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from doing so. Security Requirements: Applicants must be able to pass a background investigation and drug test. Residency Requirement: Applicants must have resided in the United States for a total of three years within the past five years, or have worked for the U.S. overseas in a federal or military capacity, or have been a dependent of a federal or military employee serving overseas. Student Status Requirements: Applicants must be enrolled at least as a half-time student and in good academic standing with an accredited law school. Preference will be given to second and third-year law students. Proof of Enrollment: Applicants must submit an academic transcript or proof of enrollment with their application.
