Job Description: - Temporary immigration attorney position with potential to transition to permanent based on funding - Join one of the longest standing and largest Medical-Legal Partnerships (MLP) in the country - Partner with diverse array of medical professionals in 38 hospitals to address health-harming legal needs of low-income individuals - Complement healthcare with legal care - Holistic approach to address Social Determinants of Health - Practice at intersection of immigration and healthcare - Represent clients on various immigration matters - Leadership role in expanding MLP movement - Reports to supervising attorney
Duties and Responsibilities: - Staff two weekly legal clinics at hospital partner sites - Provide legal services for a wide range of immigration issues - Assist noncitizens in securing benefits - Train medical staff - In-person legal clinic at a hospital 2 days per week - Fulfill hospital clearance requirements
Qualifications: - Admitted to practice law in New York - 2-4 years of relevant immigration experience, preferably in healthcare or with vulnerable populations - Excellent communication, research, and writing skills - Ability to empathize with clients and problem solve - Interest in working with low-income, disabled, and/or disadvantaged clients - Ability to speak a language other than English, especially Spanish, preferred
