BDO is currently seeking a highly experienced Tax Managing Director, Private Client Services for our San Antonio, TX office. This role offers a high level of responsibility and the opportunity to work with high net-worth individuals and their families, C-Suite executives, athletes, and entertainers. As a member of the Private Client Services Practice, the Tax Managing Director will provide tax compliance and consulting services, review complex tax returns, and assist with business development and people development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead tax and consulting engagements, teach team members necessary skills, and provide executive presence as the primary client contact - Review complex individual, trust, estate, S-Corp, foundation, partnership, and gift tax returns and provide feedback to preparers - Direct communication with government agencies for complex matters - Identify technical issues, conduct advanced tax research, and provide recommendations to clients and advisors - Expand knowledge of tax concepts and stay updated on current tax developments - Prioritize and review work to ensure timely completion of engagements - Utilize analytical, research, and critical thinking skills to assist clients with individual and business decisions - Contribute to the practice through billing, recruiting, training, and participating in CPE activities - Build and maintain relationships with BDO professionals and external sources
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics (Master’s degree preferred) - 10 years of experience in accounting, finance, or law - Expertise in private client services - Prior supervisory experience - Experience in public accounting preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential, Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (EA) credential, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or equivalent - Other professional degrees or certifications applicable to role preferred
Software Knowledge:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat - Experience with tax compliance process software and research tools preferred
Key Skills and Abilities:
- Self-motivated and takes ownership of career and technical development - Strong communication skills, both verbal and written - Leadership abilities and experience managing key performance indicators - Expertise in technical and practical issues for high net-worth individuals and their families - Business development skills, including networking and building relationships - People development skills, including supervising, training, and acting as a career advisor
