The Organization:
CoRe is a legal services organization dedicated to housing and community justice in North and East Brooklyn. They have a 50-year tradition of community lawyering and have worked with neighborhood organizations and organizers to represent hundreds of tenants and tenant associations.
Responsibilities:
Directly supervise staff attorneys in group tenant association representation, fair housing claims, and other litigation matters. Maintain a personal caseload of complex litigation matters. Co-counsel with staff attorneys. Ensure ethical and competent representation. Assist with training and managing caseloads. Work with community partners to improve education on housing issues. Lead community education events. Participate in management meetings and other administrative responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
Admission to the bar of the State of New York. Minimum of 3 years of experience in housing litigation, 5 years preferred. Cultural competence and ability to communicate effectively with diverse backgrounds. Excellent legal writing, litigation, and advocacy skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently, track case data, and meet deadlines. Computer proficiency. Willingness to attend evening meetings and events. Demonstrated ability to publish articles advocating for clients.
Preferred Qualifications:
Second language ability. Experience in housing litigation or similar areas.
