Responsibilities:
• Lead and supervise a team of attorneys, advocates, and support staff in providing fair housing litigation and representation services. • Plan and handle complex litigation, including maintaining a caseload and representing clients in state and federal court, as well as administrative proceedings. • Train and mentor less experienced attorneys and advocates in trial preparation, case strategy, and client representation. • Manage team-specific grants, ensuring timely completion of deliverables, drafting reports, and responding to funders. • Develop and implement strategies to address systemic barriers affecting clients' economic and social security. • Engage in community outreach and education to raise awareness of fair housing rights. • Maintain data and records in compliance with funding and program requirements. • Foster positive relationships with the court and partner organizations.
Requirements:
• Member of the California Bar with at least 3 years of experience as a practicing attorney. • 2 years of experience in civil poverty law or public interest law. • Knowledge and experience in administrative proceedings. • Desire and ability to mentor and train others. • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse individuals and organizations. • High attention to detail and ability to meet grant deliverables and reporting requirements. • Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends. • Reliable transportation.
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Fluency in Spanish (written and spoken) preferred. • Expertise in housing law, particularly landlord-tenant law and administrative law related to subsidized housing. • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. • Commitment to serving low-income individuals and families. • Ability to work successfully with diverse communities.
Salary and Benefits:
• Annual salary range of $95,000 - $135,000, with starting pay at $95,000. • Potential 2% bilingual pay increase for passing oral and written tests in threshold languages. • Generous benefits package, including 100% employer-paid medical premium, dental, vision, and life benefits. • 35-hour workweek, paid vacation and sick leave. • Option to participate in a 403(b)-retirement plan and flexible spending accounts. • Eligibility for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.
