Overview:
BayLegal is seeking an experienced attorney with a strong commitment to public interest and social justice to join our team as the Supervising Attorney for the Youth Justice Team. This position is responsible for supervising the legal work of the team to ensure high quality services for youth in a wide range of civil legal areas. The Supervising Attorney will work closely with the Managing Attorney and other supervising attorneys to further develop and implement the vision and direction of the Youth Justice work. This is a full-time position based in one of BayLegal’s regional offices, with occasional travel throughout the Bay Area to supervise the team’s work and engage in advocacy for youth.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide day-to-day legal supervision and support to attorneys, including reviewing writings and pleadings, observing intakes and hearings, and co-counseling cases as needed.
Conduct regular unit reviews to ensure high-quality advocacy and compliance with BayLegal policies and requirements.
Guide staff in developing and executing advocacy strategies.
Carry a client caseload and/or perform direct client services.
Assist in the professional development of unit staff by constructing individual professional development plans and providing regular feedback.
Collaborate with community partners to address systemic barriers facing BayLegal's client community.
Engage in annual planning and periodic reviews of priorities and responses to emerging issues.
Promote BayLegal's mission, resource development, and compliance with funding requirements.
Engage in other tasks and projects to further BayLegal's mission and operations as a non-profit.

Requirements/Qualifications:

Membership in good standing in the California State Bar.
At least five years of experience practicing in civil legal matters, including working with youth and practicing in at least one of Youth Justice Team’s primary substantive practice areas.
At least one year of supervisory experience.
Knowledge of and demonstrated commitment to addressing secondary trauma, burnout, and sustainability.
Ability to develop and implement effective training and mentorship programs for new staff.
Experience developing and/or leading projects or advocacy efforts.
Commitment to racial justice, diversity, and inclusion.
Strong understanding of compliance with professional conduct rules and funding requirements.
Proficiency in technological equipment and software necessary to perform duties.
Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
Ability to take decisive action and ensure accountability.
Willingness and ability to travel throughout the Bay Area as necessary.
Sense of humor and proactive problem-solver.

HYBRID WORK OPTION: BayLegal is committed to the health and safety of our staff, clients, and community. This position requires working on-site and in-person at a BayLegal office or community-based advocacy site at least three days per week, with the option to work remotely from home on a part-time basis. Employees are expected to reside in California and be able to commute to their physical BayLegal location and other service delivery locations as needed during the standard work week.

Compensation and Benefits:
BayLegal offers a diverse, family-friendly environment and competitive public interest salaries, along with a generous benefits package. The estimated starting annual salary range for this position is $100,000 - $120,000, determined primarily by years of experience. BayLegal's benefits package includes 100% employer-covered medical, dental, and life insurance for employees and up to 60% for dependents; student debt reimbursement program; long-term disability insurance; employee assistance program; dependent childcare employer contribution program; employer-paid CA Bar license and/or social work license fees; and 401k retirement plan with BayLegal contribution following the first year.
