Job Description
Summer Associate/Law Clerk Program The candidate’s tasks include the preparation of research memoranda, pleadings, correspondence and written discovery, all under the tutelage of experienced attorneys. The firm’s law clerks are encouraged to observe court appearances, depositions, mediations, arbitrations and trials. Many of the responsibilities delegated to the firm’s law clerks are the equivalent of work performed by new associates. Historically, the firm’s Summer Associate/Law Clerk Program has been the principal means to identify and recruit associate attorneys. Many of the firm’s current partners and associates began their careers as law clerks with the firm. A partner supervises the program, participates in on-campus interviewing and coordinates the training of the firm’s summer associates. Law clerks are not assigned to a specific attorney, practice area or group, but are encouraged to challenge themselves by working with each of the attorneys at the firm. This enables our summer associates to experience both transactional and litigation-related work, as well as different practice styles. The work of each summer associate is evaluated on a project-by-project basis by the assigning attorney. The partner who supervises the program conducts a formal evaluation at the mid-point of the program and at its conclusion.
