This opportunity will allow students to gain hands-on experience in various legal units, including housing, eviction defense, public benefits, consumer debt, family law, victims' rights, consumer issues, student representation, outreach and assistance for indigenous peoples and farmworkers.
The organization is dedicated to providing high quality, free, civil legal assistance to Maine's most vulnerable residents, and interns will have the opportunity to work with experienced attorneys and advocates in responding to the immediate needs of individual clients. This may include client intake, communication, research, memo and brief drafting, and litigation preparation. Students who have completed their 2nd year of law school may also have the opportunity to appear in court on behalf of clients.
