This is a full-time position with a salary range of $60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. As a Staff Attorney at KDOL, you will have the opportunity to make a tangible impact in the world of workers' compensation law. Your responsibilities will include conducting legal research, drafting documents, and assisting with public and legislative requests. To be eligible for this position, you must have a Juris Doctor (JD) degree and be licensed to practice law in the State of Kansas. Experience with state government and/or workers' compensation law is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct legal research on Workers Compensation laws, regulations and precedents. - Assist in drafting legal documents, including briefs, memoranda and opinions. - Assist Director and Assistant Director in responding to public and legislative requests, advising ombudsman on the law and working on the medical fee schedule. - Assist records section with retention of records and advice on Kansas Open Records Act (KORA). - Assist Self-Insured Employers group with evaluation applications to be self-insured and security required from employers who have left the program.
Progression Milestones:
- Complete training on the Division’s electronic filing system (OSCAR). - Attend relevant seminars, workshops and CLE courses to enhance knowledge and stay license in the State of Kansas. - Complete on the job training with self-insured and records program.
Minimum Requirements:
- A Juris Doctor (JD) degree. - Licensed in the State of Kansas.
Preferred Requirements:
- Experience with state government and/or workers compensation law is a plus.
Post-Offer, Pre-Employment Requirements:
