Responsibilities: - Provide legal advice and representation to eligible clients with financial stability issues - Represent clients in cases involving government benefits, criminal expungements, and employment or housing related issues - Investigate facts, conduct legal research and writing, and prepare clients for hearings - Appear in state or federal district court or state appellate courts - Work and consult regularly with other members of the Economic Justice team at SMRLS - May require local travel to courts, hearing offices, and other SMRLS offices - Maintain a caseload in compliance with SMRLS' written practice standards - Comply with SMRLS' policies, practices, and guiding principles in furtherance of the organization's mission - Participate in community education, outreach, and active bar involvement
Qualifications: - Must be licensed to practice law in Minnesota or a candidate for Bar admission - Ability to effectively work with low-income clients, victims of domestic violence, and individuals of different cultural and ethnic backgrounds - Excellent communication skills and ability to work positively and constructively in a teamwork setting - Good judgment and ability to work hard, independently, efficiently, and under pressure - Flexibility to take on additional duties as assigned by SMRLS - Fluency in a second language is beneficial but not required - Basic computer competence is necessary
Salary: - $80,010 DOE, pursuant to scale - Good medical benefits provided
