Purpose of Job:
- Provide high quality legal advice, representation, and advocacy for low-income clients - Practice regularly in magistrate, family, and circuit court - Specialize in housing, family law, unemployment, custody, benefits, and domestic violence cases - Work closely with community partners to provide holistic services
Scope of Responsibility:
- Work in office, courts, administrative law proceedings, and community - Represent clients in court and before administrative agencies
Essential Job Functions:
- Prepare legal documents, advise clients, gather evidence, and develop strategies for cases - Attend and participate in task forces focused on client issues - Occasional night and weekend work and travel required - Help LAWV engage the legal community for pro bono work
Requirements:
- Demonstrable commitment to addressing issues of low-income constituents - J.D. and admission to practice in West Virginia - Ability to use office technologies and LAWV case management software - Balance administrative and client advocacy responsibilities
Other Duties:
- Work with supervisor to set goals and identify training needs - Prepare reports and complete administrative tasks as required

Job Description:
The Staff Attorney will be responsible for providing legal representation, advice, and advocacy for low-income clients. This will include preparing legal documents, advising clients, gathering evidence, and developing strategies for cases. The Staff Attorney will also attend and participate in task forces focused on issues impacting clients, and may be required to work occasional nights and weekends and travel for court or administrative hearings. Additionally, the Staff Attorney will work with LAWV to engage the legal community for pro bono work.

Salary and Benefits:
The Staff Attorney position is a salaried position with an annual starting salary range of $52,000 - $61,400. LAWV offers a generous benefits package, a 37.5-hour workweek, paid vacation leave and sick leave, and health, dental, vision, and life insurance. Staff also have the option to participate in a retirement plan and dependent and health flex savings accounts. LAWV is an eligible nonprofit employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.
