Job Title: Staff Attorney - Hybrid Remote Organization: **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** (LANWT) Location: Midland, Texas Experience: Licensed to practice law in Texas, prior experience in contested family law cases preferred, understanding of Texas Family Code, Rules of Civil Procedure and Evidence, prior experience in litigation cases preferred, prior legal services or public interest experience preferred, fluent in Spanish preferred.
Position Overview: - Seeking a dynamic, self-starting attorney with a demonstrated commitment and passion for public interest law to fill a staff attorney position in the Midland office of **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** (LANWT). - The staff attorney will provide daily representation in civil legal matters, engage in strategic advocacy, and collaborate with low-income individuals and community groups. - LANWT is a non-profit public interest law firm that provides free civil legal services to low-income individuals in 114 counties in North and West Texas.
Responsibilities: - Gather evidence, advise clients, draft legal documents, and conduct civil lawsuits. - Interview clients and witnesses with cultural competence. - Represent clients in court and before government agencies. - Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations for clients and the community. - Provide legal assistance in areas of general civil law. - Design and carry out outreach and community legal education programs. - Supervise and coordinate activities of legal, clerical, volunteer, or student workers. - Efficiently handle a caseload involving substantial litigation and advocacy. - Attend evening legal clinics, participate in community outreach, and conduct intake at shelters.
Qualifications: - Licensed to practice law in Texas. - Prior experience in contested family law cases preferred. - Strong understanding of Texas Family Code, Rules of Civil Procedure and Evidence. - Prior experience in litigation cases preferred. - Prior legal services or public interest experience preferred. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills. - Strategic thinking and project development skills. - Strong work ethic and sense of accountability. - Fluent in Spanish preferred. - Ability to engage in occasional work-related travel.
Salary: $66,500 per year for entry-level attorney, may be higher based on experience.
